We use permethrin to drench fire ant mounds that pop up in our Aldabra enclosure. Even though it is safe for most (all?) reptiles we still cover the mounds so they don't come in direct contact with large amounts of it.

I'm also in south Florida.
Most of the things that CAN work, wont because of the weather here.
The good news is that Carpenter ants shouldn't be any sort of a danger.
