I've been a long time lurker and visit these this forum when I have a question. Such a wealth of knowledge here and greatly appreciated. I have a CDT who has been in my family for about 30+ years. Vets estimate him to be about 50 years old. He's lived in 3 different states and now, he resides here in Colorado. My question is, he's developed this white build up around his face. I have read that it can be from being to dry. Is that what this looks like? If so, I will start soaking him. I never see him drink unless it rains and then he drinks water off the ground.

I don't really see what your concern is. However soaking won't hurt.
Also if he only drinks from the ground, try either digging a small pond or put his water dish level with the ground and see if he will drink more.

What a fine looking tortoise!!

They get that white look when they're too dry.
