Hi, I got my first Russian Tortoise Cooper yesterday. He was being fed a mixture of "Reptile Munchies" which is a mix of Fruit and Veggies and Grassland tortoise pellets. I know neither is a healthy choice of diet. He pooped a lot today during his soak. It smelled rancid!

I've tried to offer him greens but he hasn't touched them. I am wondering if that is just because he is adjusting or if it something else.

Does anyone have any idea on how best to switch their diet?

It's not the worst thing he could be eating so if he is eating that, I would continue feeding it and just slowly start mixing in greens/grass/weeds.

Pick dandelions, flowers and leaves, to help start the change. It's a favorite of all my Russians. As you get him converted to greens make sure to offer a good variety; it's much healthier than any one food.

Thanks for the advice. Cooper ate a little spring mix today finally. I think he is still getting adjusted, he is a very shy little guy, but I am already hooked.
