That's a nice piece BD but be careful when you first heat it....it could rupture.

I'm "playing with wood" in the garage. 2 levels of shelves. Always a fun time.....wood and I don't get along. Norm has nothing to fear from me!

The bottom support was the first and built in place.....looks terrible. There's a learning curve.LOL then I began to prefab them.

Kayak is coming down for the 16" deep x 3/4" plywood shelves to extend on the back wall too.

Almost forgot to post one of the super sexy unseen things, but be warned that is why I love Subarus! Hidden safety features. I have two of these fire blankets installed in 50# hooks on next to oven and one by the toaster. Also as an odd note I almost have the perfect work triangle- 78" from sink to stove, 78" from stove to fridge but only 76.5 from the fridge to the sink. 😄

Good evening everyone!

A pupil who was unable to have her last violin lesson before Xmas gave me a Xmas present today. She gave me an orchid and some moisturiser what a lovely family they are!

So an old municipal building is better ng torn down and I managed to score some rubbish! I thought it was just an unhoned piece from f marble that the upper portion of the building had been clad with. I Amy be wrong a jagged corner scored glass so I think I may have quartzite. Makes an awesome trivet to put a hot pan on!! It also has some very faint shiny specks
Nice. I wouldn't be able to resist it either.😊

Yesterday I decided the shelves weren't strong enough when installed with 4" nails against the wall. I completed a section, screwed in a 16" wide by 8' long sheet of 3/4" plywood and there was no way I'd trust it. I was in the studs but I was still able to pull a bracket off the wall....and I'm old! I will go buy screws today!

Kerry's son sold the Vette and removed most of his things from the garage.

I'm over at my home today, crossed the Bay yesterday before high winds that might close the bridge. Kerry will bring the pickup over later today. Today is "TOOL DAY". I hope to back my little car out of the garage and load the F350 with a full load of tools. What fun! I sure hope superman shows up....that stuff will kill me!

Good afternoon/evening all.
It's been dry here for over a week now but the temps have plummeted and we're going to have minus temps for the next few days, Some areas of the UK will have snow but thankfully not my area.
Tilly and Alfie are getting on pretty well - although Alfie is a bit touchy when food is about and Tilly gets jealous when Alfie tries to get my attention. So I have to sit in the middle and they're either side like bookends. We've had some nice but very cold walks this week. and they are keeping me very busy.
My sisters arrived in LV and Ca and are having a good time. with their families. The Ca clan were heading to San Francisco today for a few days. The LV bunch are only there for a week and not interested in the sights of the 'Strip' but have visited a national park. Apparently they went to a bar last night and my brother in law had a heck of a hangover today - he's not used to drinking much these days. Cambrie celebrates her 2nd birthday tomorrow so my sister is really pleased to be there for her party.
They are all surprised at how cold it is on the west side of the US and at how expensive shopping is over there - especially food and even for basics such as bread.
Anyway I hope you're all well but TTFN.
Take care

It's cold here and supposed to be colder for several days. Even dropping down to single digits tonight. With blowing snow but if it's like today it won't be much snow. The wind is what's making it so hard. It freezes you to the bone. My brother's little poodle is going to give birth soon. The little ones are going to be very small and I put my dibs in for a puppy so maybe 🤔 one for me, Dilly, and Razberri. We'll see. They really perk up with a baby around to play with. I'll have to make sure they're all compatible and no one is stressed before I decide to keep one. If I can't the breed, size, etc won't be a problem in finding a good home for it. Briar is a silver mini poodle and some kind of Yorkie mix is the father. We'll see what happens 😊

When I talked with my brother tonight he said Shi Tzu that the poodle is mixed with . And he promised he would call me when they are born.😊

We have ice covered with ice and then the ice is covered with ICE!!! 19 damn degrees, wind chill is so cold my thermometer on the deck freakin froze. everything on my deck is covered with layers of ice...I wanted to unzip my greenhouse to see how my exotic plants were doing but of course the zipper is iced in. It is so cold I don't have much faith in the black light bulb, the che or the very expensive small electric heater in on those plants. I am having faith in the heating systems in the tort shed because it was too dangerously icy on the steps across the pens and back...if the tort shed loses power half my house loses it too...an easy fix on the wall...a switch. Tonight it's sleeting and tomorrow is much of the same. None of the snowplows made it out. The streets in town are all snow and ice covered...many accidents. Those of you with 4 wheel drive don't seem to realize that in certain instances where that just means all 4 wheels slide...LoganDSCN2050.JPG

Nails are fine for perpendicular holding not angular like you found out. Construction Lag Screws will work perfectly with a good drill driver. I have a ryobi that takes bits and is a hammer action that works great with them

Yes we're warm enough thanks to electricity and gas heat. It still feels cold even tho our indoor temperature is 75°f. The furnace will kick on soon. It's warmed up to 20°f outside today with the sunshine thank the good Lord. Yeah the furnace is blowing heat right now 🤗 I'm getting warm and toasty.🔥

I'm sending prayers and hugs 🙏🤗. and best wishes and love for you and your little ones Our temperature got down to 16° last night with high winds and cra.ziness but we didn't have a bunch of snow and ice. Yeah 🤣 the wind chill can be crazy in temperatures like ours. And it was here. It was saying 20 below zero. Eeeek So my brand new old vehicle is still sitting. I got it Thursday and can't bring myself to even play with the buttons and whistles. I did start it and looked at stuff like the radio 🤗 and the heater.😁 I refuse to drive it at this point until I at least know where those buttons are.😊

Gee guys, are you cold enough yet? We have a balmy 26-28F here by comparison. I never knew it got so cold there Mags! Stay in, you don't need an injury due to a fall! The kids Vette was an '82, pretty but slow. LOL sorry, no pic of it though.

Mr Heater is my newest friend 80,000btus of warmth.....and my first Diesel.......4 bucks a gal compared to 12 for kerosene around here. 10 minutes running time brings the garage up to 60F.

Yes BD, I learn, slowly though; I had thought the forces would be "sheer" for the wall supports but with the shelves it ended up being tension.......and it did not work out well! LOL

We reinforced the supports with 3.5" screws and installed the rest to the wall on one side....42 total linear feet so far.....and I climbed on them so I know they are strong! The back wall with the kayak is next.

The biggest part of the W/E was the boys who bailed me out.....all my Heavy stuff came over this weekend. The Welder being the heaviest. My son helped us load the toolbox, compressors (there are two more that you cannot see in the pic) and welder along with a couple of my work tables at my house and Kerry's son came over to help me unload. Thanks boys, you saved Dad's bum!

We had to deadlift everything onto the truck to load it, a ramp was nice to use to unload! My son the ex college football player(MLB) was having some difficulty with the weight, so I kept taking the "heavy end" of things. I'm really too old to do that anymore but work habits are hard to break once you get working. If you were a "lead guy" in the field, you will continue to be.

OK, this morning, superman is down.....after clambering all over the garage to put up shelving and outlifting both 25 & 33 y/o sons, my groin is pulled due to the ladder work. I was ok yesterday morning with the sore hands, wrist, knee, back and hammies....................today, the groin will give me a day off. When I stand up, I can't hardly lift my right leg to move it forward to walk.....LOL..and no, I don't take meds for this stuff.

I told Kerry as I struggled to fall asleep last night...."going to work was easier"

Good afternoon/evening all.
It's getting colder here but the sun is out which makes it easier to take the dogs out for a walk, I don't think they'd be going out so often, or for so long, if it was cold and wet! It's certainly not as bad as the cold Maggie is getting at the moment.
The dogs are getting on well and my nephew caught this pic of them yesterday after a long walk -
P1140005.JPG
Alfie looks much bigger than Tilly there but she is actually taller and longer than him, she's just tucked herself in more. Tilly goes home on Weds as that's when my sister gets back from LV but Alfie has another 10 days. His family are on a road trip and in SF at the moment. They were going to Alcatraz today (hope they don't get left behind I hear it's quite hard to escape from!)

Lola hasn't ventured out much the last few days - why would he when he gets room service in his warm hide? 🛎️ The dogs haven't seen him but they can't get anywhere near him so thankfully no issues there.

I hope you're all keeping warm if the temps are struggling where you are.
See you later.

Don't overdo it Jeff! I would prescribe a good long soak in a hot bath and a couple of ibuprofen.
