When I went to university in the UK many years ago, there was basically no payment needed -one lived in accomodation run by the university, which was free to students - and healthcare was free anyway. My mother died a few weeks before I started, so the amount my father would normally have been expected to pay for my keep in vacations was reduced - and as I managed to get jobs away from home all during that time, he didn't really have to spend any money on me for those three years. I feel very sorry for students now weighed down by huge student loans- it must be so depressing.

Yes it's very hard on people here in the US carrying huge debt from student loans just to learn a skill. It takes them years to start really making their own money again.

We are in beautiful downtown Waterboro South Carolina this morning after spending the night here on our way home. The map says 600 miles....it will probably take 2 days since we are driving Kerry's Dad in his 15 year old car that we don't drive faster than 65mph. In other words, a trip from he-ll. Watching her family interact is like watching chickens in a room with a glass floor. Exhausting. I don't know how long 5 edibles will enable patience but it likely won't get me home. LOL

God, Grant me the serenity......

Enjoy the day guys. If and when we do get home eventually I'll post a wedding pic or two.

Well, here in Finland there are only few roads where you can travel over 60mph or 100 km/h. On most long distance routes you can only drive 80 km/h, that is just about 50mph. Thankfully Finland is a small country.

Here it is because due to the harsh weather conditions some roads are in really bad shape. I suspect the same reason but worse in Siberia?
Wanted to add that some roads here in Finland have a lower speed limit in the winter than in the summer because they are hard to maintain and keep safe.

In Siberia the speed is higher in winter because the snow covers potholes 😃
What I am most afraid of driving high speeds in the winter is the hard ridges formed from snow by cars repeatedly driving over the same spots. They are safe as long as you don't have to get out of them to turn or take over someone. Second most scary is when there is no lighting and snow makes it hard to see.

I've never driven in Russia 😬 Too dangerous. And a lot of people never went to the driving school, they just bought their driving license (I was one of them though, shame on me😄).

Oh yes - the fees for our private schools are astronomical. Only for the rich and privileged.

Our motorways are usually 70 mph but some are 50 mph. The Welsh government reduced the speed on all other 'A' roads in Wales from 30 to 20 mph last year which has caused uproar and tends to be ignored by most drivers. The police just don't have the resources to enforce it, but they do occasionally turn up with mobile speed cameras to catch us out. I don't think any other parts of the UK have done the same.

That would be very popular here, there's a long waiting list for driving tests. You have to pass a theory test before you can do the practical test. When I did my test you just went out in the car with the examiner and he would then verbally test you on random questions about our highway code. I failed my first test - didn't get off to a good start when I tried to get into the wrong car at the test centre.🫣

Here you have to do the same, plus pass two different courses on top of the required minimum amount of driving before a test.

Based on what I have seen in movies and TV, UK roads can be crazy especially with all the mini roundabouts.

I passed the written test easily (in the US) but the driving test 🙃 ugh. On the 5th time 😃

They wouldn't be so bad if people used their indicators to let other drivers which exit they're taking. It amazes me how many drivers don't indicate at junctions. I think it's illegal in Australia and I think it would be much safer if it was here too. It's second nature to me but younger drivers can't be bothered. Some don't even indicate when changing lanes on motorways etc which often causes accidents.

It isn't illegal there? That's weird.
