Doing some winter gardening I found 2 of our younger greeks hibernating in my compost heap. It is a 50/50 mix of sheep manure and compost. Is it safe for them? And if they like to hibernate in it can I use it for Moris' tort table? Sand and soil mix is very wet and heavy right now and I would like to change his bedding.

Just curious. How warm is your compost heap? I don't know much about brumating tortoises, but I didn't think they would in warm compost.

Not warm at all... Its old compost, so I think chemical activity is done.

I dont know about keeping my tortoise on a substrate made of other animal poop... we just cant be sure how well the other animals are before they get to you. They do sometimes accidentally eat them and you dont want your tortoise getting sick from that.
