Remember your cuttlebone.......
The major component of cuttlebone is calcium carbonate~ approx.
85 %. Excellent source for Females who are egg laying and in need of a " high load" of this vaulable mineral.. and overall a yearly benefit for everyone. Also helps maintain beak "growth" acting as a natural rubstone/file.
My group loves the stuff......

A little Bone ' Triva .......;)
Cuttlebone is the calcareous internal shell of a cuttlefish. A cuttlefish is a cephalopod, related to squids and octopi. They have eight arms and two tentacles. They eject a black ink-like fluid when in danger. In fact, the outer, hard shell is often stained with this black ink. They are found in oceans all over the world.

The other day I opened a new cuttlebone pack and it smelt strongly of fish. I thought I wonder what it comes from, but didn't google.
So thanks for information and the pictures.

Great information, thanks for that! My Cooper loves his bone, but so far Ophelia hasn't touched hers. I love when he walks around sporting his white face from chewing all over it, lol! Have a great day! :)

Great info and fantastic pictures as ever :)

My Squirt loves her cuttlebone.
Luckily she's not too big yet so a small one lasts her quite a while.
Dread to think how much i'll be buying when she's grown!

you betcha ..... give it a try . It's cheap and can be found at any pet store , or store that has a " bird" supply section. " We use it in the bird hobby as well~ ;) It really is an awesome supplement. and RF's ...Love it!

Ha Ha
I do grind it up and sprinkle it on their food twice a week, but I always get concerned when everyone else says " my tortoise just can't get enough of this" and mine look at it like it is poison.

Some of my torts will chew it others don't, I have tried scraping it off the bone into slices and then they seem more interested. Its easy to sprinkle too with fingertips.
They seem to like it brand new best then lose interest.
I have read about people leaving dishes of calcium powder for their torts but I personally have not tried this.
