Hey everyone.
I adopted my first Russian about a week ago. One of her favorite foods is dandelion. I've bought her pesticide free lions from the supermarket but they only sell the leaf part of the plant. I live in north east pa and dandelion is in massive abundance in early spring and early fall. I have a field across the street that is practically yellow from end to end. I know that I can grab bags full of the leaf part of the plant. But my question is... Do Russians also enjoy the flower part of the plant? If so, I have a couple months worth of dandelion. Lol

Yes, but remember too much of a good thing can be bad. Dandelion is a good part of a big variety of food. Read about it here:

Thank you lismar. The article was excellent advice. The dandelion has turned her urine a tint of pink. I'm gonna give her an extra soak let her drink lots of water and I'm going immediately to get more variety of greens. I made a noob mistake. Thank you very much for the info

Excellent!! Yea. I have no problem admitting my mistakes especially when it comes to her. And I broke out the pen and paper and wrote everything from that page. Thank you very much. But yea.. Pa has so much natural plant life to be able to mix up her diet and mix a salad for her. I'm heading to the store in a hour to get her more variety. I just brought her inside from her little out door tub. Put her in the tub for about 15 mins. I was worried when I seen the pink in her enclosure. I didn't know they urianated and pooped together. I though maybe she was pooping blood. Its a relief that it'd just from the dandelion. But I have to make some adjustments to her diet. I don't want her to dehydrate. But again thank you for the info. I'll check out the second link now!!

Oh yea. Lots of different plant life. I live in the mountains of the north east. Couldn't ask for a bigger variety of plant life. I appreciate everyone's input. Anything I can do to keep peanut happy is cool with me. Again. Thank you all!!!

Just looked at the links. Your right. These plants are all over here!!
Plantains grow very well indoors. They should be seeding right about now. I've collected loads of seeds for winter.

Yea? Ok sweet. I was just in my back yard collecting some plantain leaves for Peanut. I'll go grab the seeds from the plants I picked from. I know there should be a variety but is it safe to say that plantain leaves can be a good "base" for her salad? Sorry I didn't know how to describe it lol.

Plantain is a staple for my guys. I also get a lot of common mallow, bristly ox tongue, and dandelions.

These are the dandelions from this winter:

Pansies are very easy to grow indoors. Keep them by a sunny window and they'll do well.

Oh excellent!! Thank you so much. I'll start planting tomorrow. I have to lay off the dandelion for a bit. peanuts urine started turning pink. But with your info I can broaden the variety of her diet. Plus this way I know what she is putting into her body is safe from chemicals. Again.. Thank you very much
