When I first got my two little guys, the guy from the adoption center said "it's easy to get rid of worms. if they ever get them just use that horse stuff!" I still do not know what that 'horse stuff' is and have no idea if this is real information or if he was crazy. Haha is this real?
Ps. My tortoises do not have worms.

Its best to have a vet give you meds for worming . If you don't know what to give or how much it will kill your tortoise . There is some meds you can get from feed a store that will worm your torts but i'm not a vet and I'm not going to tell you to buy something that could harm your torts . So be safer and ask your vet .

No, he actually isn't crazy, however there's 'horse stuff' and then there's 'horse stuff.'

I use Panacur de-worming paste for equines (Fenbendazole). It comes in a big tube. You have to measure out the correct amount from the tube into a smaller syringe, the correct amount for the weight of your turtle/tortoise. The big tube is for a 1200lb horse.

Never, NEVER, NEVER use Ivermectin on tortoises. It is lethal to tortoises.

horse stuff

Panacur is likely the stuff referred to....

If your tort does not have worms then I would not treat just to treat because good bacteria is also destroyed along with anything else in their system....

Hahaha I didn't mean it offensively. Sorry. It just sounded like crazy info. lol and after he gave me a care sheet for a desert tortoise where he crossed out the name and said "here, this is how to take care of a Russian" I wasn't so sure :p thank you both tho :)

Similar care is correct, although once you are familiar with some personality traits there are significant differences....but the overall food offerings are good...they both brumate, but CDTs burrow into a tunnel with a turn around vs russians who kinda, for the lack of better words, wiggle into the earth more like a sting ray in the sand...but much deeper...they back cover themselves and can go several feet down....

Yes ma'am :) I'm guessing he was just too busy to clearly state stuff. And I found all of you guys anyway!! Thanks :D Understandable with over 300 torts plus goats and ducks and dogs. Haha
