I would think Krill would be good because they come from the cold deep water (for box turtle's or species that consume meat.) Our Eastern Box gets sardines & salmon offered up every 2 to 3 day's. Depending on the weather extremes & he's always thrilled to eat it with vigor. You never want farm raised fish & tuna has mercury in it so we avoid tuna. I'm guessing your krill oil capsule would be puncured & squeezed onto his produce, hay, grass or turtle or tort diet food. Whatever isn't eaten in an hour or so (involving fish) we remove as to not attract yellow jacketd, skunks, racoons & animal's that love fish. Our box turtle is in a fully secured run type of situation but I still don't want predators being attracted to the rest of the habitat because our aquatic turtle's are free to roam our natural pond's & acreage. Avoid GMO food & try to get all organic. You can grow herbs, grasses, flower's & veggies in trays & pots. Strawberries that aren't organic are heavily laden with toxic chemical's used by growers. Paying a little bit more for organic will save you thousands in vet bills as you try to save a pet. Chemical's & GMO disrupt the digestive tract & weaken the immune system. Fat in the body stores toxins too & is a reason doctor's say overweight people have a much greater risk of getting cancer. Sardines packed in water are affordable & you can put the extra in a ziploc or freezer container & freeze them until you wish to pull 1 out to defrost & feed your turtle. Never feed chilled food to your turtle's & torts. I hope this helped & I wish you joy & success with your little dinosaurs
I wouldn't advise feeding dog or cat food to any species of tortoise except Redfoot since meat protein is part of their diet and they can and do eat a much wider variety of foods. Please read my "reply" in which I describe why you shouldn't feed dog or cat food to your turtle's.
Dog food is not in itself harmful to a Redfoot tortoise. No dog food!
Yes it is. Read my information why!! The ingredients used to make cat & dog food aren't safe! Dead pet's euthanized because of cancer's & all sorts of reason's, roadkill, tumor laden meat from slaughterhouses & more. Flea collars, microchips all the goodies in pet food because they GRIND UP & COOK YOUR DEAD PET'S THAT PET FOOD INDUSTRY SCUMBAGS CONTRACT TO PICK UP FROM VET'S. Many RECALLS of even top line (so called) pet food is because numerous pet's are sickened & dying from eating the same pet food. It takes a lot to get a recall! It will often admit in the recall that the food is TOO HIGH IN EUTHANASIA DRUG'S! I worked at a top Veterinary Teaching College Veterinary Practice. I know what I'm taking about. Don't be lazy & shorten the life of your turtle's by feeding them garbage. Only vet's with aow IQ would suggest that's okay. There are book's on the hidden dangerous ingredients in pet food by undercover people that had been told insider information by employees at both Vet's & the pet food industry. Nkt to mention the many bouts of toxic mold that killed countless pets & or left pet's with permanent injuries, including brain damage. I've seen it all first hand!Dog food is not in itself harmful to a Redfoot tortoise.

dates we dont have here but mushrooms mm what type?Things like dates and mushrooms are also always a hit.
Keto doesnt love it! lol and he defitnetly hates cantaloupe. Any ideas how can i get him to eat cantaloupe? I'm beginning to think he is weird the torts i had in my childhood ate everything: dog food, papaya, guava, lettuce. tomato, cantaloupe, celery sometimes, carrot's leaves, cayenne pepper flowers, cooked potatoes, some earth worms and one time i was giving the dog a small piece of cooked chicken and the biggest of the red foot came and stole the piece LOL the dog was like O.O and so was i. He quickly tore it apart and ate it. I thought it was just an opportunity moment but never thought it was that they needed animal protein in their diet.Banana is too sweet for everyday feeding, but mine loves it too.

I use the white "button" mushrooms.dates we dont have here but mushrooms mm what type?
Its thought that a large part of some Redfoots natural diet is fallen, rotten fruit. Mushrooms and dead animals.Keto doesnt love it! lol and he defitnetly hates cantaloupe. You mean the white ones that grows on trees?I use the white "button" mushrooms.
Strangely enough, my torts don't seem to care for portabellas.
Dates and fruits like them are good because they are lower in sugars.
In my location...Sugars equal ants. And a lot of sugar isn't ideal even for a Redfoot.
I live in Venezuela which is a tropical country! But I live in an apartment, I let him roam free with supervision in a 10 meters x 6 mts area... inside of my apartment plus outside we got hawks and predatory birds! So I would never let him outside. But I open the window every morning and put his enclosure directly where the sun gets to him.. and when he gets tired of getting sunlight he goes to the shade. When I see the sun changes I close the window.... But it stays open for 3 hours from 7 am to 10 am.Its thought that a large part of some Redfoots natural diet is fallen, rotten fruit. Mushrooms and dead animals.
Mine have eaten a rat and about half of a wooden rat trap!
Pretty nasty stuff.
We tend to make things less gruesome by substituting other proteins. And yes. Some keepers feed boiled chicken, shrimp, even feeder mice, etc.
I feed Mazuri, whole smashed, boiled eggs and the afore mentioned dog food.
It's what I've done for over 30 years.
You can modify that if your situation or location is different. It's just what I do.
I've found that my Redfoots FAVORITE fruit is mango. And this time of year in south Florida, they are everywhere.
Also, anytime I have a sick animal....or need to administer a medicine....Mango is what I mix it with.
As for feeding..Use what you can grow, find or purchase in your location. Redfoot can eat a giant variety of things. Just mix it up and offer a variety.
We don't all live in a tropical environment like I do. What I do won't work for everyone.
My tortoise live outdoors 24/7. So they also free range a portion of their food and get warmth and sunlight without me doing anything.
Very often I take these things for granted when I'm answering posts.
