Yes, thats a box turtle....Did you capture this turtle from the wild? May I ask how exactly he same to be in your possession?
As far as food goes...25% vegetables (carrots, acorn, butternut, yellow and green squash, mushrooms) 15% fruit (kiwi, mango, papaya, apple, grape, strawberry, blackberry, plum, peach, melons) and 10% leafy greens (turnips, collards, mustard, dandelions, etc.). The rest should be made up of protein, such as cooked turkey, worms of any kind, snails, slugs....
My grandpa gave it to my little brother for Christmas because he didn't want it anymore. I have no idea how he got it. But he's 98 so he defiantly didn't catch it
I am sorry but that isn't a desert tortoise. It looks more like a 3toed box turtle. Notice the "beak" as well as he red dots on his legs? Desert tortoises don't have those. Look comparison pic of a Sonoran desert tortoise.
Look at your turtle/tortoise's back legs does he have only three toes/toenails/claws (whatever you want to call them)? Look at his under shell does it have a line that is flexible? Like the shell is in two pieces?
That's how I know it's not a box turtle it doesn't have that hinge on the bottom and he doesn't go all the way in his shell
And he has four toes
I just put him in water and he went all the way into his shell like box turtles do. That's the first time I've seen him do that
He has 5 front toes and 3 back toes I miscounted
