Different looking Gulf Coast Boxies

I have two Gulf Coast that I got last summer (Bubba and Tulip). I'm curious about their different colorations. I've seen pictures of adults that are really dark and others that are lighter. Is that's what's happening here? Also does the coloreration difference mean the aren't from the same clutch? I didn't think to ask at the time. Bubba seems to keep getting lighter over time. Tulip is dark with beautiful brown markings. I love how both are turning out so far.

When it comes to box turtles, you can't judge a book by its cover (unless it's an ornate or Florida). Gulf coast box turtles have various shell patterns. What makes them interesting!
