Hi, I was just given a juvie CDT this week and new to all of this. Right now he is still hibernating. I am working on building him some type of outside enclosure/pen, and I was wondering if they dig enough to get out? Do I need to pull up my grass and put some type of barrier there, and replant grass?

Because the 'territory' will be new to him, he will try to escape and get back to his own territory. He will eventually settle down and stop trying to escape, but in the mean time, you have to make the yard escape-proof.

I lay masonry caps along the inside of the fence to discourage digging:

Some people bury chicken wire. Be aware that if he can see daylight under the fence, that's the spot he'll dig. So make sure there's dirt up against the fence all around.

Or you can put cinder blocks along the fence on the tortoise side:

Thanks! I will make sure the edges of his territory are extra safe. I do know he escaped for a couple of weeks from his other owner, and they couldn't figure out how he got out...

By the way, your tort is so cute!
