Hi everyone, I haven't had time to visit this board must lately.

But my Russian has recently been very weak. He doesn't use his back legs too much anymore. When he walks, he pulls himself with his front legs and kinda pushes a little with his back legs. But his Shell kinda drags on the floor. Does anyone know what's wrong?

I bath him and soak him everyday. He eats and poops everyday.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

If one of my tortoises was acting like that I would get them to the Vet ASAP. Has his appetite been good? You are feeding him the correct diet for his species? He's under a UVB light and all that stuff? I am sorry I don't have any better advice for you. Things like that are very serious and the sooner you get him to a Vet the sooner treatment can start. The longer you wait the worse it gets, and the harder it is for treatment to work...

My first thought was mbd (metabolic bone disease). Its painful. Do you have a UVB light or does the tortoise get some sun? They need the UV rays to make their calcium work.

I remember reading a post a while back here or on another site where a tort was stung by a scorpion and he was acting partially paralyzed for a while (can't remember how long but probably only a few days). He recovered and was fine after that. Regardless, I would get him to a vet as recommended above.

What kind of substrate is the tort on most of the time? Sometimes if it is too soft the leg muscles don't develop. Just another idea. Best wishes.

He gets outside from 3-6 hours a day. UVB at night until 9pm.

I soak him everyday for 1/2 - 1 hour.

50/50 Bed o Beast and play sand.

I haven't dropped him.

Does anyone know a good reptile vet in SoCal?

Oh and he eats good and poops almost everyday. Sometimes he poops twice a day.

Someone will come along soon with a vet recommendation (a few of them have a book or something). Best wishes, and thank you for looing after your tort and getting it to the vet. I hope it feels better soon.

Robyn will find you a Vet but she needs to know what city you're in considering SoCal is a huge area...Also, soaking for 15 minutes is enough half hor to an hour is too much, they really don't need that much...
