Hello everyone,
I have a wild displaced Eastern Box Turtle that I will be taking care of inside for the winter. I have had him(Samson) for about ten days. I have tried different fruits and veggies (fresh spinach, mesculin greens, strawberries, blueberries, carrots) He doesnt eat any of this. So far, all he will eat are earthworms. I am not sure if it is the movement of the squirming worm that triggers his hunting instinct because he will not attack a worm that isnt wiggling about. I have started to put the worms on top of piles of fruits/veggies and sometimes he accidently bites some while trying to bite the worms.
Samson is about 5.5" long. I have no idea how old he is. I am not sure how often and in what quantity he should be eating. I have a reptile calcium supplement that I have been adding to his food. Right now he eats 1 to 2 average earthworms per day with whatever fruits/vegs that he bites while eating worms. I am also looking for any tips on getting Samson to eat more variety. I have very good light/heat in one part of housing, I have been misting on a daily basis. He loves his substrate, often, all I see is his head poking out from under the substrate.
I am new to this. I have been doing research online. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
