Im new to tortoises although I have hatched out a lot of turtles and all of those eggs have capped within a day if they are fertile. I just got my first yellow foot egg about 3 days ago and still no cap. Can anyone tell me how long it takes a yellow foot egg to cap? Thank you in advance for any help.

Congrats on the egg Ron.

What do you mean when you say "cap"? Tortoise eggs are a different world.. than 'turtles'! Can you say patience?

We usually say that the eggs are "chalking." I'm thinking you mean the same thing. If you wait for a couple weeks, then in a dark room place a penlight with a strong beam directly on the egg. If it glows really, really bright, chances are pretty good its a clear egg, that is, not fertile. I was lucky enought to have three out of four fertile yellowfoot eggs about 3 years ago. They incubated for close to 6 months, and I thought for sure they were rotten. They had turned almost black and they really smelled. But 3 beautiful babies hatched out!

Good luck. I hope you get babies.
