yay!

did you just happen to catch her making the nest or do you follow around and wait to see it?

do you always incubate or sometimes leave them in ground?

That’s actually part of the "art" of tortoise breeding.....is noticing the tell-tell signs before a female lays so you can catch her in action and find the nest. For myself and how I keep my torts, it's utmost necessary to do so, the RF's and Cherry's are so stealth like in nest making, and cover up there is no way you would find it in the yard. After years with adults , you become familiar with their actions and times of day they usually lay as well as favorite spots. Even though I’m in So Cal there is no way eggs left in the ground would incubate safely. It’s much to cold especially in Fall and Winter Months. My herds lay year round in this climate with females averaging 30-45 days between clutches.
The second and hardest part of it all ……..is the WAIT~~~~~~~~ Patience at it’s finest! At almost a half a century in age ….it’s still like a kid at X~mas :p
