Hello all you experts out there. I have three eastern box turtles and I have an area for an outdoor enclosure (as they are to big for indoors and its to nice outside for them to stay inside all the time) ;) and I was wondering how I should landscape it. Like plants ect. Pics of pre-existing enclosures would be nice so that I would know how to plan mine.

Thanks!

You can see some of mine here:

I'd go with lots of plants, logs, sticks, leaves, etc. The older the better. You want to attract bugs, slugs, snails, worms... A natural compost bin of sorts... Give them areas to sun themselves, areas to dig down into the leaf litter, soil, or compost material.

A small pond would be good. Or at least nice large dishes of water they can easily get in and out of. Mine like to swim a little from time to time.

Are you going to leave them there year round?

A few more ideas:

Thanks for the ideas Chad. I dont know about leaving them out year round I live in Florida and it is usually really warm but it does get cold in the winter sometimes in the low 30s.

Well, they live in the wild outdoors year round just fine :) You just have to give them a proper area to hibernate where they will be below ground and\or under a nice pile of leaves and composte... I'm in the Seattle area and keep mine outdoors :)

Here's some pictures of mine. I have converted it a bit for my Cherry Head now and am making a new boxie pen this Spring.
