Hi guys, decided to stockup afew of this MVB this weekend.
My question is, how long can 1 last?
Usage : Monday-Friday, 7.30am-7.30pm.
Weekends, natural sun.

Thanks in advance.

I've had some last 2 months. The current one on Kobe's tank has been going since February, probably the longest of any MVB I've used. However, given all the favorable reviews of the ZooMed Powersun, I'll probably switch to one of those soon.

One of the major causes of early failure of MVB bulbs is vibration and heat..Thats why it shouldnt be mounted directly to the tort table or on a floor stand..The slightest vibration can shorten the life of the bulb significantly....Also bare in mind most common MVB bulbs stop putting out usable UVB rays long before they actually burn out..most within 4-5 month.....

Note: All three of the Powersun's I started with in Fall 2010 are still going full strength...i.e. no loss of UV. But, I should also point out that I stop using them in March. But still, that's 5 months on...7 months off...with no UV loss. So, my original thought that MVB lose residual UV sitting dormant doesn't seem to be the case. I'd love to hear Mark shed some light on this:p

Hey Dean.. Can I ask what your readings are and at what distance??I tested my buddies 100 watt Powersun.. When first started it was at 175um at 18".. After a week it was at 140.. After two month it was under a 100um....with the amount of decay his should stop producing usable UVB at 18" in another 2 month...Of course he can always lower the bulb..to bring up the Numbers..but I recommended he return it to the store and exchange it....

He said when he called zoomed..that they guaranteed that it wil light for a yr....but they wouldnt/couldnt guarantee the UVB output....

175...wow! Mine started at 165, 160 and 160um...and all are still floating aroung 154 (at 18 inches). He should definitely get an exchange, because who in their right mind would spend $40 - $50 on a light bulb;)

Sorry DeanS! I don't have a UV meter so there is not much I can add to the conversation.
