Hi guys! Shredder is doing amazingly well! Everything seems to be on track, he is eating like a champ! My only concern is that sometimes his eyes seem to be a little crusty when he goes on a burrowing spree. I saw some tortoise eye drops at the pet store. Would these be beneficial or harmful if I just did them when he seems to have a lot of dirt around his eyes? I just feel like it might be uncomfortable.

My Leopards don't burrow, but sometimes they have substrate on their feet and then rub it on their eyes accidentally while eating. I just soak them for a few minutes if they look like they have too much near their eyes. They'll usually use their legs and wipe the substrate away with the clean water. I'm not aware of the drops you mentioned, maybe someone else will know.

Honestly a cheap bottle of saline from the eye care section at the grocery store will probably take care of normal irritation.

if you don't mind me asking what are these eye drops supposed to do? I imagine there neither beneficial or harmful just a waste of money.

These are what I was referring to. They are available at my local pet store.

I have one of those pump up sprayers that I use to spray the carapaces of my growing babies. I just use rainwater in mine, but you could use RO or distilled too. Just a little spritz will clean off any debris around the eyes.

My adults live in burrows all summer long and I don't ever need to rinse their eyes.
