I have had it! I spent $800 to insulate and upgrade a shed for him to live in safe and comfortably, an anonymous donor sent $1000 for a solid cedar fence so he couldn't escape anymore and I could relax and stop worrying about him leaving, then I just spent $11 for a soaking pool and after I hurt myself digging a hole for the pool I spent $30 for a guy to finish it off and this is what I freakin get! He never not once ever soaked in it. He never not once drank clean water from it...this is just what I saw as I gazed from my deck...

When we talk to people about Sulcata if they are thinking about getting one we never talk about the frustration that comes along with having one...

Oh hey Bob did you have a soak in your pool yet?

I'm pretty close to letting the first person to show up at my door with a big SUV have him...

Well, at least he can't escape anymore...or at least not until he digs his way out.

Bad bob!! well, you have the hole dug,, i think its time to smear some concrete, quick drying, around in there, and seal it and call it done.
make sure he is locked up when you have it done tho!

Maggie, Just a thought, before I made a "Terryo" pond, I dug down, (you already did) laid a square piece of linoleum (flooring) in the hole, covered the edges with dirt and trickled the hose to let it fill up. I know Bob is a little bit bigger than my RedFoots, but honestly it worked very well. It would seem that if your hose was long enough you might be able to let the hose trickle from above those cinder blocks, because I can certainly see him grabbing that hose and running around the yard with it,then squirting you as you tried to take it from him.
Thanks for always making us laugh.

Typical Bob. Don't feel bad, my little ones wouldn't use their pool when I did it that way either. But boy they sure came running when I left the sprinkler on and flooded half the pen!

It was a good effort Maggie. Its the thought that counts... at least when it come to big sulcatas. :)

I really want to thank you, Maggie. When I was first wanting a tortoise, I considered a sulcata and was attracted to their eventual size. After thinking about it I decided to stick with smaller torts. Through you, I get to vicariously enjoy the antics of Bob, without ever straining a muscle!
Honestly, I think he needs a simple but well-built cement pool, engineered for his maximum size, weight, and strength. Get bids, let us know. I would be happy to make a contribution to Bob's pool.
