Hello all,

I will be getting a baby tortoise in the next little bit and yesterday my wife put fertilizer in our yard, it was Scots and it is little orange bead type things. I am sure that they will be into the soil in the next few days.

My question is will the grass (in a month or so) be safe to graze on, to for the little guy to walk on?

I would think so since there is no actual fertilizer to eat, just what has been absorbed by the grass.

Thanks

The thing is, that the grass utilizes it through the soil. So the elements in the fertilizer will be in the grass itself. Not too certain how long. But I would wait a good season (until fall or next spring)before using that grass for food. You can get some tortoise seed mix online and plant it in a put. Like a rectangular one and clip it with scissors to feed from.

Thanks, but could that be true of hay and items we buy from the supermarkets? It is safe to put him on it or while is outside should I have him on a floor of some type?
