If I provide enough area for them to hide will they survive longer? Also will they help with the tank clean up?

if you provide them with a hiding place or two such as the skulls they sell for aquariums & such, then yes they should survive much longer. as for cleanup I wouldn't expect much unless they're specifically designed for that purpose.

Oh OK . Yeah cause usually the turtles dropping break up and get in between all the river rocks I have at the bottom
