My newest tort spends most of her time burried, we didn't get off to the best of starts, she had a heavy worm/parasite load so needed meds and some patches of shell rot, she was off her food for quite a long time after her meds.
Now things were looking up, she is getting her appetite back slowly (still fussy but miles better), but has developed a flakey, patchy beak? Her beak is nice and short but I'm not sure if this is something to be concerned about? My guesses about what she might be lacking is UVB because she spends all day burried apart from if I dig her up? Or maybe because her diet has been poor and lacking vitamins for months?
Anyone know anything about this sort of thing?
I will post a pic when I get home from work.

Here's a pic, it's not great as her face is all muddy as I unburied her but you can see the lighter flakey bits on her beak. Hope she is ok, poor thing has been through it.
Any ideas what and why?

No it wasn't like this before. Her beak got a bit chipped when the vet was trying to hook it open a couple of months back to give her panacur but its been fine until I dug her up a few days ago and noticed. He was being very rough with her and he wasn't a specialist so I never took her back and done meds myself after that. I have phoned round previously and there are no exotic vets here, I would literally have to go to the other side of the country which I don't mind but I'd worry about the stress on the tort.
She keeps smacking her lips, as if she's away to or just has eaten even when she hasn't. I've went back to soaking her every day in case she is dehydrated but don't know if this is related.
I will go and look up beak rot, it's not something I've heard much about.
Any other info much appreciated.

Here's a clearer photo of her face after.her soak

When you open the mouth...does the tongue and inside of the mouth look pink and healthy? Not dark , not irritated looking?

What a beautiful tort by the way :D

I will try to get a good look today, I did think her tongue looked a bit pale when she was eating though, (is that bad?) didn't see any black or discharge.

Ok so got down on the floor and held some romaine in the air for her to eat so I could get a good look in her mouth. There is no black bits or anything strange that I can see, the inside of her mouth just looks a very pale pink, not as bright as my others.
Does anyone have experience with beak rot?? Could it be that?

Apply a small amount of betadine on the OUTSIDE part of his mouth everyday until he gets better.

Would that be safe? What about when she eats and drinks, will it rub off?
Thanks

Get the ear bud that you Clean your ears with, apply betadine on one side of the ear bud, then apply water on the other side of the bud.
Rub betadine at the OUTSIDE (lips) part of his mouth, keep it for a couple of seconds, then rub the OUTSIDE part of his mouth with water using the other side of the bud. NEVER PUT BETADINE INSIDE HIS MOUTH CAUSE IT IS NOT FOR INTERNAL USE.
GOOD LUCK :)

That's what I did for my VERY VERY FIRST tortoise in the past.
But then it died from URI last year :( !
He was the best !

Ok, good idea about leaving it for a few seconds then wiping it. Defo wouldn't put inside mouth.
I'm still in two minds as to whether there's something wrong, or if she is just low on vitamins etc after what she's been through the last few months!

Thanks for your help btw.
Sorry about your tort :(
