MANY species are now being considered to go on the banned list coming up. this is insane. sulcata are def one im hearing being spoken about, this might affect everything from geckos, bearded dragon, all species of torts etc. this is very dangerous for us as keepers!

please let you state representatives know how you feel asap. im guessing these WILL pass they are pushing it heavily here now. and its not good.

we are trying. but as kenan said here if FL passes this its almost guaranteed sooner or later all other states will soon follow its just a matter of time at that point. we are def in a hard spot here at the rescue just like kenan is since we cant just up and move tomm if they pass this so we are really trying to consider whats going to happen to over 230 animals we keep here that are permanent residents. its bs in all honesty.

They've been planning this for many years. And used devious methods for influencing the public to let it pass. When truthfully, they are the ones that influenced the DNA of the Florida Panthers to be an alley cat. They are the commission though. I've said too much.

What will happen to all the reptiles already owned?
Will they confiscate them and euthanise them?
That would be heartbreaking.😢

we are being told if this gets passed we will have to find places for them to go. so i up till now am not sure they will allow grandfathered animals. look at other places in fl who kept and bred iguana. when they passed that recent law most of those places had to relocate animals and they only had x amount of months to do it.

What a worry!
And I'm guessing they'd all have to be relocated out of the state - how many people can do that?
If the law is passed and spreads across the US where would they go then?
Would that include individual reptiles owned as family pets?
What about zoos would they be expected to get rid of theirs too
This is dreadful and so unnecessary:mad:

thats why its so important to contact your senators and representatives and tell them how you feel. tell them you are against the innovations act as well as the lacy act (which has now been rolled into that) and if you are in florida same thing make noise. you will never see them do this to dogs or cats because of the backlash they would get. we need to be just as loud now. its now or possibly never

I imagine they'll be grandfathered in. You can keep them if you can prove how long you've had them.
This sounds so much like innocent until proven guilty. Suppose you don't have proof? Then they would just have to take your word. Sigh. A disaster in the making.

My understanding is that a lot of iguanas got put down when they passed the last rule change, because homes outside FL could not be found fast enough.

I really hope this can be blocked - but given the way it’s been going last year or two, it’s highly doubtful.

It's probably a decision some or most keepers will have to make:. Hide and hope, or come out fighting. En masse.
They are trying to sneak it in. And have been for many years. Probably most people haven't even seen it and unless they keep reptiles or exotics they wouldn't even look or try.to stop it. Also the news usually concentrates their efforts on telling stories about ferocious animal attacks and teaches the general public to be fearful. Therefore the public probably thinks it's a good idea. They think they are protecting all those dumb people from getting salmonella or ate by something. And they think they are protecting all the born free animals that have no habitat but they'll be ok if we just let them be. Ok rant over
