food stained with substrate problem

so i put a water and food dish in the enclosure. my torts walk over the dishes and the water and food has bits of substrate in them. is it safe for their consumption? im pretty sure u guys face it too or am i wrong? how do i fix this or should i just let it be? im using soil with cypress mulch and coconut husk

How big is your tortoise? How large is his/her housing? With a larger tortoise, they will pass foreign matter easier and with a larger enclosure, there would be less traffic through the food.

Just keep mess to a minimum. Shouldn't hurt anything and its unavoidable.

I would leave the soil out the next time you swap out the substrate.
