I think I asked the same question awhile back, and the answer I believe that I got back was that they don't do much for reptiles but they really do a great job lighting up an aquarium full of fish! Honetly, I'm not 100% sure if that's right so hopefully someone with solid information will give you hand--Good luck! :)

I'm not really looking to use it to help my torts in anyway, just to give them more light.

How high above them would it be? I've never messed with 8000k lamps but I have some that are 5000k - 6500k that are 3' above the enclosure.
