My group had a big issue with worms a while back.
I'm thinking that maybe they stopped scratching when the worms went away?
Just a theory.

I was thinking it could have been a ring worm type thing, but proper worms are a possibility too. I've never had a positive fecal test, but who knows. I'll keep my eye out for more tort rump rubbing in the future.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find something that amuses a tortoise.
Maybe think about what they could do to amuse you.
A member once mentioned hiding food and putting food in unusual places and watching a tortoise discover it.
I thought that that sounded kind of fun.

I have started doing this recently in the afternoons.A little game of 'find the food' when he is sleeping under his basking lamp I place a food trail around his enlosure. When he wakes he notices something and follows the trail. The trail leads back to the basking lamp. He seems to enjoy it!

It isn't a matter of training the tortoises, it's just a matter of preventing the situation from occurring. Your tortoises shouldn't have access to the dog to bite them or steal their bed. Keep their spaces separate.
