Hello everyone. My hatchling EBT appears to have a fungal issue. His shell has been like this since before I acquired him.

At first I thought it was just dirt, but after rinsing and drying him didn’t help, I realized it could be fungal.

The odd thing is, when he’s wet, I can’t see any whiteness at all. The fungus(?) is only visible when he’s dry.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

This is what he looks like when he’s wet:

Also, is this his yolk scar or a fungus patch? Just making sure!

The spot on the plastron (bottom shell) is a normally healing yolk sac area. Not fungal.

You could try adding salt to the water in which you keep the turtle to see if it knocks out the fungus. I would use 5 g. of salt per liter of water. This equates to roughly 18.9 g of salt per gallon of water.

Thank you! Would the salt hurt his eyes? And how long to leave it in?

Do you possibly know of any creams that may help? Thanks again!

he was raised in water? i think it's no more than mineral deposits....... i think it's nothing to be concerned as long as his shell is solid...... you could wipe it down with chlorhexidine and leave it dry before returning him to the water...... i've seen what you got pictured there a lot on turtles that have spent the winter underwater...... chlorhexidine makes for poor living conditions for bacteria and fungi, don't over do it, a turtles shell as a persons skin host many beneficial bacteria.....

As far as I know, he was kept outside until I got him. He’s had this whiteness since the day he arrived.
I do keep him in water, but I’m fairly sure it’s not the cause.

if it's fungal the chlorhexidine will clear it as will aquarium salt or povidone iodine...... if it's bacterial povidine iodine or chlorhexidine will clear it up..... if it's mineral none of those will make a difference...... the amount of salt Zovick is referring to will not bother their eyes, the solution should be similar to saline eyewash, just makes a bad environment for fungi.to grow......
