I feel like a moron asking this question but what is the best way to plant this bird seed? LOL
Sort of press it into the moist substrate or bury it just below the surface?

I had the best success by putting my mix in a bowl, adding some of the dirt (or whatever) and mix it up and sprinkle that all over the planting area. My issue is getting my sprouts to stop dying! I think I may wait until spring and plant a big outside area.

I've gone about it in two ways. One, I rubbed them around in the moist substrate, then pressed them down and sprayed the substrate. And then I took the lid of a cardboard egg carton, put in sphagnum peat and coconut coir mix, like what I use for substrate, and put a layer of seed on the top. Poked it around so some are in the soil and some are on top. I've sprayed it and have it in a hot box with a cfl light that I'll keep on until I get good sprouts. Hopefully it works.

I've thought those cheap, aluminum cake pans sold with the clear plastic cover could work because then it's a mini greenhouse. Put it in a sunny window near a heat source and it should work. As for planting, I'd soak them overnight, then spread a layer on top, and cover with 1/4" of soil.

Like Ken, I cover my grass seed with a thin layer of soil. Don't let it dry out while sprouting.

Excellent. Thank y'all for your tips. I wonder if my hatchling will mostly make a mess of it as it sprouts? Lol. I have my second batch in a tray, just in case the in chamber batch is a failure.

My little Freckles is a beast when it comes to eating. I'm totally blown away at the amount of food she throws down in a day. Fueling all that new growth! Yes! [FACE SAVOURING DELICIOUS FOOD]

Will grass mold in a closed chamber? The substrate is ground sphagnum peat and ground coconut coir.

This organic wheat grass has introduced what I assume to be white mold into my enclosure. Arrrgggghhhh. What now? Will taking this out be good enough or willl I have to replace the substrate? The seedlings (the birdseed is sprouting) all over the place but I found white mold spots around quite a few of them, scraped a layer of substrate out, only to find this stupid grass has it all throughout it.
What do I do?

Sorry I can't help you with this. I recognize this mold. I'm in Oregon and I believe that may be our state flower. Lol. But I think with good air circulation and slight drying, it will me a non issue.
