Hi!
I was wondering if someone could tell me the type of grass I could give our baby sulcata. We are located in Chicago, IL and a lot of the list of grass I found they don't sell here because it doesn't typically grow up here.
Thanks!

Hi,
We bought a sulcata hatchling last week and I was wondering what are suitable grasses that I can grow for him to eat? I live in Chicago, IL and every plant store/home improvement store we been to has not had the seeds we were looking for (from a list I found on this forum). Any help would be wonderful. We really want him to thrive.

I buy my seeds online. Plus, towards the end of planting season I look for discounted veggie seed packets at the dollar store. One of our sponsors, tortoisesupply.com, sells a nice variety of different seed mixtures.

Here are some grass seeds I ordered on Amazon. All of these sprout with no problem and have worked well for me this winter.

wheat grass

tall fescue

(you may consider looking for a shade grass to grow in a window)

Barley

You could grow them in these trays or any recycled containers you can use...

Also, Amazon has dandelion and chicory seeds too.

Good luck!

For a baby the easiest thing to do is go to the grocery store and get those little plots of organic wheat grass sprouts. Just chop some onto the other greens and keep it watered and in a sunny window sill. You can sometimes find them at pet shops too.

Then go online and go to groworganic.com. They have a really good one called something like irrigated organic horse pasture mix. It works really really well. Its by far the best grass seed I've ever found.
