This cuttle bone came to me really battered. It has some grey discoloring I am worried about. What is it? Should I shave it off or not offer this cuttle bone at all?

Is there an odor to it? I know cuttlebone can become discolored over time, but as long as it doesn't smell weird it should be fine.

Not sure, it does have a different smell than I am used to. Straight out of the packaging it smelled like someone had just picked it up of a beach if you know what I mean.

They don't cost as much as peace of mind.
Can you return it to the merchant and get one you are comfortable with?
Edward will be ok without one until you have one you feel ok with.

Totally. I wouldn't use it.

Okay, I am a little annoyed since they are hard to find nowadays and the price has increased. I payed 3€ or 3,16 dollars for this single, small cuttle bone. Have to go hunting again whether there is a store in my city that sells them.

It is not that pricey, but in my opinion too hard to get.

That's fascinating that they're hard to find in your area. They are literally everywhere here in the Colonies.

Well, they aren't natural here, and they have to be shipped from elsewhere, that must be it. Also, there is a problem with lack of physical pet stores for other animals than cats, dogs and horses. I have seen three exotic pet stores go bankrupt in my home town. In my university town, there isn't a single one for exotic pets.

Does Amazon deliver to you? Try there if they do.

What do you all think about "fake cuttle bones", I have seen them sold over here. The reason they are made is the low availability and overfishing. Here is one reddit post about them:
I would use it as long as none of the ingredients are bad. I have seen them sold a lot. I think it's harder to get a real one any place nowadays. In fact I think I have used the fake ones before.

The thing is, that they don't usually list all the ingridients. This one for example says 74.5% calcium sulphate and 10% cuttle bone powder. My question is, what is the rest 15,5% made out of?

Also, I have read that calcium carbonate is more bio-available to tortoises compared to calcium sulphate. Is this true and does it even matter?
