Okay, I've seen a lot of recommendations for waterproof heat cables (i.e. heat rope) lately for increasing humidity, especially for Redfoots. Can someone lay it out for me: whats the best kind/type? Where's the best/cheapest place I can get it? And just to confirm, does it go inside or outside the enclosure?

I'm waiting for my coco coir to arrive soon. This spring, I'm gonna start working on an outdoor pen for the sulcata, so the large 36"x42" will ultimately be refurbished as an upgrade for the redfoot. Since it is such a wide, spacious tank, I'll end up using heat cables for it.

The ones Jackrat posted look excellent.

The ones I've been using are from Big Apple pet supply, they are also waterproof and have been performing quite well:

It seems both of these are good quality ropes, just different options on lengths and their corresponding wattage.

+1 for the ones from Big Apple. My first set lasted about 6-8 months, the second is still going strong a year later. I really recommend a thermostatic heat controller for safety, but I am not sure it is that big a deal since my cables running full blast never seem to get over about 90F.

So I ask again....does the cable go inside or outside the enclosure?

It's my understanding that they go on the inside, hence the importance of water proof cables, but I'm sure someone who's using this method will be along shortly to confirm or correct me. :)

I'm wondering if I shouldn't utilize this with my little Leo... Hmmm.
