I'm trying to find a radiant heat panel for a new enclosure for my 65 pound sulcata. I checked Vivarium Electronics and all they have is the 120 watt. Is that okay? The enclosure will be similar to Tom's single tortoise enclosure and located inside our barn. Our barn is too big and difficult to heat so I need to build an enclosure specifically for him. He goes in the barn every night to go to bed, so I thought it would be a good place for his night box. I will have a pig mat and the RHP (if I can find one.) Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

The 120 should be fine because you will run it on a thermostat. Be sure to get the dimensions and make sure it will fit.

There is also a chicken brooder heat panel you could use. I get it at Tractor Supply. Called the Producer's Pride Chicken Coop Brooder, it is about 1/2 the price of the VE heat panel and more powerful. It has 2 settings - one at 200 watts, the other at 40 watts. Use the 200 watt setting and put it on a thermostat. You can do a simple modification to the legs that come with it for horizontal placement and use to hang from the ceiling or wall.

What thermostat do you recommend to control the heat panel & heat mat?

Thanks @Markw84. I got one at TSC and will hang it on the wall of his new shed we built. I'm assuming it goes on the wall near the floor so he can sit next to it? And it's ok if he touches it just like the RHP?

@FrankiesMom

Here's my set up. It's 14 1/2 inches from the Kane heat mat

I don't know if it can burn them. But being a chicken brooder my best guess would that it won't burn them. At this height he will not come in contact with it.

I'll try for the third time to add a picture. Not sure what I'm doing wrong lately lol.
