What kind of heating pad are we talking about? How thick of plywood? Indoor our outdoor? Would it have air to 'breath'? Exposed to water? T-Stat or rheostat? How will you monitor temps?
Should work and be safe at the same time. But would need more details.
Jordan...if you get a good pig blanket, from Osborn Inds...get a Stanfield pad and they are very thick hard plastic. Indestructible...Bob has had his for 3 years and it still works and looks fine.
But you have small Redfoots and I just don't think a pig blanket would be good for those small torts. unless you are trying to figure out a way to heat their whole enclosure?
If you have a heating question you're trying to solve, we'd love to give you suggestions if you can detail what your enclosure is like, what kind of torts you have, and what area you'd like to heat .
Well it stays at pretty good temps, just thought it might be nice to have the heat from from bellow where they sleep at night... Thanks everyone for the advice and helpfulness!
You can buy a small seedling strip heater and put it under the substrate in the hide. They are made out of two layers of mylar with heating coils inserted throughout between them. They're supposed to be water-proof. I have a couple, and they seem pretty sturdy.
