Hi. I have been a Sulcata Tortoise owner for almost 8 years now. It all started when my (then) young son developed a love of reptiles. We rotated through ownership of lizards and snakes and a variety of strange critters. The only species I developed a true liking for were the tortoises and turtles. About 7 years ago my son gave me Sherman, who at the time fit in the palm of my hand. Come Spring he goes out for the day, but comes in at night. As the weather improves, Sherman stays out 24/7 until Fall comes around. My son is now in College, and the menagerie at our house is much smaller. Due to health issues I can't quite keep up with a full-sized zoo so we are down to 3 dogs, a bunch of Guppies, and Sherman. My boy now weighs about 45 pounds, and is quite the talk of the neighbors as he stomps around the yard.
