Hey guys I just downloaded this app. I was lucky to save a tortoise from the trash, from the trash that (censored) old neighbor throw away! Ugh Anywho I'm extremely new to this! The tortoise which I renamed "Franklin" ( typical right?) seems healthy it's shell looks very dry and I was really dirty! I stoked Franklin in warm water and cleaned him up a bit he looks much better I think imma keep him! (or her I don't know the sex) any who since I'm totally not prepared bought this tank that's like 30? And he has enough room to room around I got him a heater light and a UVB bulb too! His temp is 80 is that ok for him? Now For the first two days it didn't want to eat I guess my neighbor had him starved and scared, but today he eat pellets and some weeds from outside... Can someone give me tips on how to care for him I don't have the money to built him anything outside yet and plus where I live during the winter it gets pretty cold! Thankfully in the summer it's super hot! So till then I have to keep him inside! So really what I'm asking is for tips on what to feed him? How can I make his shell looks fresher and how to tAke care of it! Please help!

We can't really offer you any GOOD advice until we know what kind of tortoise Franklin is. You can't really take care of him properly, either, until you know what he is. So take some good, clear pictures and post them. We'll be happy to help you and Franklin.

(Just curious: how were you happening to be going through your neighbor's garbage? )

Hey guys thank so much for the welcoming this is cool, Franklin seems to be a Russian Tortoise I took it to a local pet store and that's what they told me, Here's a pic I the little guy! How old does he look? Lol

Oh emysmys we take out out trash I the same day, during my morning jog saw something moving! First I thought I was a cat I was curious so I went to look! My neighbor is moving so he had a lot of junk sitting outside including this tortoise!

That's just awful!!! I can't imagine tossing a live animal in the trash. I'm so happy you happened by at that precise moment. Good for Franklin too!!

Arggg! People make me just sick sometimes, I think this is why I am becoming a homebody! I am soooo happy you found your new tort! I hope you both have a great relationship together. My Russian is not very social but here again she had a lousy upbringing. I hope everything goes well for you 2 and welcome to the forum!!
