Help Identify This Turtle?

I know this is a tortoise forum, but my mom found (what I think is) a turtle. A land turtle. Here are a few pictures.
I'm thinking it's an Eastern Box Turtle, but I'm not sure. I live in North Carolina, USA.
It has a hinged shell, five toes on the front, and four on the back. All clawed.

Welcome. Looks like an eastern box turtle to me. Terrepene Carolina Carolina. It would be best to place it back in a remote location.

Put the turtle back where your mom found it. They're very territorial and if you put it someplace else he'll work very hard at trying to get back home, maybe even getting run over in the process.
