So in Maryland today we are experiencing 60 mph winds and my power went out at some point today so my little Walter has thought it was bedtime since all his lights are out. How do you keep a tortoise on their normal schedule without electricity to power their lights?

Probably better that he just hunkers down for the day. One day won't hurt. If power doesn't come back on tomorrow in a day or two, then you might need to do something.

I hope someone more expert will be along soon to offer their advice!
Meanwhile, put on a pot of water to boil if you have a gas stove, and use it to keep a "steam tent" nice, warm and humid for your tortoise until you get power back. Just make sure the boiling water cannot make any contact with the tortoise itself.

I wouldn’t worry much about one day or two either.

He’d have some bad days in his natural habitat as well, you know. :)
