Hi guys, new here and a new tortoise owner. I purchased these a few days ago off a lady who’s son had lost interest, they’ve settled in really well especially now I’ve moved them to a lighter part of the house.

The lady said they were both 1 years old, both males however one is a lot bigger than the other.
I’m wondering if there’s a way of working out their age.

bowser (the bigger one) weighs 240g
Koopa (smaller) weighs 147g

bowser 4”
Koopa 3”

could there be that much weight/size difference if the same age?

many help would be appreciated

Thank you

emma.

Yes there can be that much difference. They all grow at different rates. They look to young to sex though.

I THINK, (it's only an opinion) that the reason you have one growing better than the other is because they don't do well in pairs. Tortoises are territorial, and the larger tortoise is telling the smaller tortoise to get out of his territory. This is causing stress for both tortoises, but more stressful for the smaller one. I think you'll see that the smaller one starts to grow better if you set him up in his own enclosure.

They both look to be under two years of age to me.

I agree with everything Yvonne just said. They need to be separated ASAP.
