Hello and welcome to the forum..

6-8 inches is the average, no worries about it getting huge..

I've just got a new tortoise and he has come from a home where I don't think he was looked after properly and since I've brought him home he hasn't ate a thing or looked very happy or moved around much Is there anything I can do to make him feel more at home?

While some adjust quickly to new environments, some can take days or even weeks to adjust. Just keep offering food and make sure the enclosure is set up correctly and he will come around once he is use to the change..

Hi jackomarsh:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know your name and where you are?

Can you find out what kinds of food the previous owner was feeding? Sometimes tortoises don't recognize new few as edible.
