Until you can get to the vet, you can warm up his enclosure, don't go below 80*. You can also give a nice warm soak.

His temps stay above 80° and when I put him in the water his head stays under water :(

My dad is going to get home and take me to the vet in 15 minutes. Will that be to long?

15 minutes will be fine. Let us know how he is doing and what the vet says is wrong with him when you can. Good luck!!

Shouldn't be too long, but try to keep him a bit warmer in the 85 - 90 range. That may help his body try to fight whatever is going on.

You should find an exotic animal vet. Preferably one with tortoise experience.

Saturday might be too long...it just all depends on a lot of things.

Yes Saturday can be too long. I would call around and see when a qualified reptile vet can see him. Maybe someone on here can refer a vet to you thats close to you.

Question ? Why the concern for vit a?

Could that be why he died faster? They gave him a vitamin shot before he died. And it seemed like he died almost immediately after we left the vet. I would just like to know so I don't make the same mistake twice.

wait, did i miss something? tortoiseboy, you lost your leopard, Midas??

i'm sorry to hear this.

No, If you look at the date on this thread it is VERY old. It was my Leopard that died before I got Midas (Leo). I was just re-opening this thread because I wanted to ask that question and not make another thread :)

No, I doubt it. Too many vets give too much vitamin A in their injection and this causes the skin on the tortoise to slough off. It doesn't kill him right away, but a secondary infection from all the raw tissue with no skin, might kill him.

I think he may have still had a piece of substrate stuck in his throat.

But there's no way to know what happened unless you have a necropsy done.
