Hi I am thinking of getting a Hermman's Tortoise as a pet we are reasurching about them now. I have managed to find a lot of the answers to my questions but the one I can't find is what is the ideal age for the tortoise to be brought into your home there seems to be various answers on the net ranging from hatchling to 3 years old any help would be appreciated

You'll find about a thousand and one opinions on this!!!! :p (which suggests there is no 1 perfect answer!!!)
Hatchlings are more fragile, and even a perfect looking hatchling can die on you for no clear reason. Or they might be fine. I think hatchlings may get friendlier sooner, but others may not agree.
A slightly older tort is not going to be as fragile and is less likely to die unexpectedly.

I wanted to be sure and get a female because I didn't want to have a male flashing and trying to breed with anything that resembles a tortoise.
So that meant about a 4-year old. She was 4" long when I got her. :)
