I'm Rosie, I live in the UK and I got my horsefield tortoise 1 month ago. I joined this website because all of the books I read and bought had a tone of "You thought this would be easy! You slacker!!" and I really hate it as I did 1 year of research before I got Arnold. Hopefully everyone here will know their facts but be friendly and down to earth. Thanks!

Hi, Rosie, and a very warm and friendly welcome to Tortoise Forum to you and Arnold.
Those books may have been out of date with their info as well as being written in an unfriendly tone.
The best and most up to date tortoise care info is to be had right here.
Have a look at http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/
and http://www.tortoiseforum.org/thread...or-other-herbivorous-tortoise-species.107734/
and http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/russian-tortoise-care-sheet.80698/
to begin and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
You'll find after you've got the set up right, you'll have to make a few further tweaks here and there as you learn ( we've all still got something to learn) and then keeping your tortoise content and healthy is easy, fun and rewarding.
We're here to help.
Enjoy your time with your new pal!

Hi Rosie I'm in the UK too.
Welcome to you and Arnold.
There is a lot to learn but this is the best place to learn it.
There's a caresheet for Russians, the Enclosures thread is great for ideas and I found the Beginners Mistakes thread useful too to save me making the same mistakes as others.
So read search and ask as many questions as you need, there's always someone around to help.

Thank you all very much this is a very encouraging start! I'll be sure to look at all of those later. I don't have any pics of Arnold's enclosures at the moment but when I do I'll upload them to an album. I'll be uploading some of Arnold in a bit. I think most of the books I have are published in the earlier 2000's so those will be very helpful.

Hi welcome to the forum. I'm in the uk too in not so sunny cumbria. most books I've read are only worth reading to look at the pics and to see how much things have changed and I certainly would not follow the advise from any I've read. The care sheets on the forum are the best most up to date info available and well worth reading.
