Hello all!

If you don't remember I stopped by last year to ask about how to care for two rescued sulcatas. I am sad to report that Abbott passed away at the end of the year. I did all that I could for him but at least he is no longer suffering.

On the other hand the other sulcata, Castello, is doing quite well. He went back to the vet and has a clean bill of health. No parasites and after a bout with MBD his shell is firming up and he is on a proper diet and gaining weight and growing. He is a happy curious tort that is turning out to be a very handsome guy.

I doubled the size of his enclosure and got him more hides and a larger soaking area. He loves it. I am still planning on building him an outside enclosure in the backyard when the weather warms up a bit, but for now he is inside.

Ok on to the question. My friend brought over a hibiscus plant as a present for Castello to get treats. She was unsure of the species of Hibiscus and I was wondering if any specific species are toxic for sulcatas to eat. I know just to feed them the flowers but I don't want to give him something that would make him sick.

Also. Now that he is at a proper weight, how often should I feed him? I completely forgot to ask the vet when we were there last week. Right now he gets fresh cut grass and Timothy hay daily sprinkled with some calcium supplement and some vitamin A. He doesn't eat all of it but I was offering it due to the fact that he was under weight.

Thanks so much!

All hibiscus are edible (flowers and leaves)

I'd keep feeding him exactly as you already are.

Sorry to hear that Abbott passed away. :(

Glad to hear Costello is growing healthier and thriving. :)

I hope he enjoys the hibiscus but not, as dmmj warned, all in one sitting. ;)

Post some photos so we can see him! :D
