That is one of the two common forms of African Hibiscus. The other type is all green with green stems and yellow flowers. Love that plant. It is EXCELLENT tortoise food.

Those little fleshy maroon colored things are called calyces. They are used to make the drink called "Jamaica". Yummy for us too.

Your tortoise can eat the leaves, flowers, stems and calyces.

The plant won't survive cold weather. Mine dies when night temps reach the low 40s. It doesn't even wait for the first freeze. If I were you, I would save some of those calyces when they mature and save some seeds for next year. I plant new ones every year.
