So I’m curious to know what pet hospitals should I take my tort to? I don’t want to take him to a regular dog and cat vet because I don’t feel like they would have the right equipment for cold blooded animals such as reptiles. Any suggestions or recommendations?

You are correct in not wanting to go to a dog vet, but there are not many competent Tortoise vets. Best thing to do is find out the vets you have access to and do your research. Find out what reptile certifications they have, are they ..... Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV) members? Do not just go to someone that says "Yes I see Tortoises" so what that says nothing at all that you understand tortoises. Homework is your answer.

A good place to start your research is our vet list on the forum, but it is only a starting point as the list is old:

Go to this web site and click on the orange "Find a Vet" box at the top right. You can then put in your address and the distance away for which you wish to search find the nearest ARAV member vet: https://arav.org/

Putting in Chester, VA and a 20 mile radius, I came up with this one:
Lucy A. Haile
Midlothian
Virginia
23114-4365
United States

There are three additional ones listed within a 50 mile radius.

If you don't need to take him to a vet don't. I have had mine since 2011 and never seen a vet.
The only one I took was a female that I was afraid was egg bound. I took her to a reptile vet that had knowledge of tortoise just had bad housing advice.

As someone in the veterinary industry- absolutely go to an ARAV associated vet if you can, those clinics are going to have the most up to date info.
