The first picture of George where he is on the table is a few days before I adopted him. The next two pictures are of George today. Yes, he is still on flat newspaper. I adopted him two months ago and he has been treated for parasites. He has been on flat paper since then. Anyway, I'm hoping he looks a bit better even though it's only been a couple months! Despite the newspaper flooring right now, his humidity ranges between 65% and 75% depending on time of day, and his temps range from mid 70's to low to mid 90's. And yesterday he decided to flash his male parts!

I have no idea why my type is so small. I hope you can read it!

I understand that he is a rescue but he is benefitting from your care and looks very spirited, personable and healthy.
I have always used newpaper as bedding.
It allows for monitoring and inspection of everything the turtle passes, especially during quarantine.
Good work.

Thank you! He is very spirited. He has lots of personality. I've kept box turtles for about twenty years now but George is my first tortoise. I'm really enjoying him!

I like him. If you can soak him each day go for it. Mine drink several times a day outside. Being your first tortoise going with an older one is the way to go in my opinion. Much more outgoing and responsive to your presence especially when hungry :D
