Hi everyone. My Shrek is 16 and weighs about 40lbs. He has
A lovely sulcata seed mix garden to graze in and I give him
a lasagne once a week as well as orchard grass. My question
is how much mazuri should I be giving him and how often?
I've just been reading some older closed topics on mazuri and
Shrek loves it. I want to be sure I'm giving him enough because
he is a big boy and always seems hungry.

And here he is in his garden.

Very nice looking guy you have. I feed my big guy a bowl full every other day mixed with fresh greens . I always give more than he can eat . But somedays he will eat all of it . Then go out an graze . He will even start to eat the hay in his house if I don't get his food out on time . My guy is a little pig . I use a normal cereal bowl .

Thank you Mike. I'm still very new to this. I've only had him since August so I'm still learning. About how big and How old is your guy? I want to be sure he is eating enough.

You can feed Mazuri every day in theory. Because it is higher in protein than most grass and weeds, make sure your tortoise is well hydrated. If you are not sure he is drinking on his own regularly, then soak a couple of times a week.

Thanks Tom. I have seen him drinking so no worries there. I think he is doing well. Should I be putting that reptile cream on his head? It feels pretty rough.

I wouldn't. That stuff is more for the shell.

Yes. The area around the scute margins will look "different" when the shell is still growing. Ever seen a pic of a really old wild tortoise. The scute margins are the same color and texture as the rest of the scute. Pics would help here...
