I am a newbie at keeping tortoises and I want to ask how many ZooMed tortoise food (hatchling formula) should I feed per red slider (smaller than 5cm) each day?
And should I feed it everyday?
Water turtles, especially red ear sliders, are very good at training their person to recognize that they are starving to death. They will scramble at the sides of the tank whenever they see you, letting you know just how hungry they are. This action has absolutely nothing to do with actual hunger on the part of the turtle.
Three or four sticks of the turtle food should be enough for one day, and you can also give him a worm or a bug and a bit of lettuce.
I give my RES their pellets based on how hungry they seem! (NOT lol)
I measure out how much in the cap. Such as, half a cap for one turtle, to two turtles get a full cap of food... my turles are adults, though, so they have an adult formula which=a very big cap on bottle
Hatclings should eat more, too
